I am here...I think. Ha! I have had computer problems lately when something fried my entire system and when I finally got it back from the repair shop, my rent, internet costs and everything else went up and I cut off my Internet at home as a cost-saving measure. I now check my emails at my local library but cannot upload videos from a public computer. Meanwhile I am writing my second book while still waiting for word on my first one...sort of in a holding pattern at this time. Thanks!

Hi, I was diagnosed with MS when I was 14 and I am 37 now. I used Tysabri and gained a lot of benefit from it. However my doctor put me on a drug holiday 2 months ago and I will start my infusion in January. In my experience Tysabri is the best treatment for MS so far. I have not had any new attack since I went on drug holiday. Good luck to all who are using Tysabri. :)

Hmmm...would I recommend Tysabri for everyone? ABSOLUTELY! I know I may not react to the medication like anyone else but I CAN NOW WALK AFTER USING CRUTCHES AND A WHEELCHAIR!! I now walk nearly 2 miles a day when the weather is nice and, yes, I am still doing very well and am scheduled for another infusion next week! I am completely "sold" on Tysabri!

Hi Vern, Looks like you're doing good with Tysabri, congratulations! I personally have had MS for about a dozen years (I'm not bragging or anything) - now, I can walk about 50 feet without having to grab something (or falling). I'm thinking you know what that's like unfortunately. In any case, I'm going to start with Tysabri next month and I see that you can walk a mile without aid. If you don't mind me asking, how did you start? (I assume you didnt go out and walk a mile your first day?)

the decision to go on to on Tyis a personal one I was one of the first persons who got scared and dropped out after two months I went back on the drug! I figured 18000 have taken it for at least a year, 35500 currently taking it, 48000 have taken it at least once since it was introduced in clinical trials and we have seen 5 with PML! I think the risk is very very low! however the risk of MS progression to me is a reality! decision is yours! I had MS since 95 as well

Hi Mody...thanks for your email. Because Tysabri has been a wonderful drug for me I don't worry at all about PML. I no longer use a wheelchair or crutches and walking again is SO LIBERATING! Go for it!

Laurie; So sorry to hear about your doctors cautious approach. But, in my opinion, it is not good when a MS patient feels like their doctor cut the legs from under them. I am just a layman, but I would say to get another doctor. Tysabri has improved my life 1000%!

My doctor was going to prescribe Tysabri for me; even had me fill out the paperwork, but she decided not to do it because of the new cases of PML. Needless to say, I am SO disappointed, and very frustrated. I know she's being cautious, but I feel as though I have had my legs cut out from under me.

I see what it has done for you and where you were before Ty. Even MS people have a hard time understanding this if they have exacerbations every 6-9 months. I have heard some of these folks claiming that what really pisses them off is that they can only play tennis for about an hour now. These were people in my support group who saw me getting around with my hotrod walker. As you know completely is that it is a matter of life quality.

I understand your concern and I don't think ANYONE can fault you for doing that. I had my 23rd infusion on Friday and next month I will have been on Tysabri for 2 years. I am sticking with it because of what Tysabri has done for me.

Hi guys, my 18th Tysabri would have been at the end of the month, but i already got a prescription for Copaxone and LDN. I m set to start that in mid September, as soon as tysabri wears off and is out of my body. I am not sure if this is the right decision, but i am affraid of PML. i m not affraid of dying. but i m affraid cuz pml is 10 times MS. any thoughts guys?

The weirdest thing about MY situation, is before I went into menopause, I use to "feel good" during the yukky 5 or 6 days. Those days are gone & I no longer get days of relief. I will have to say Vern that your challenges have been many, & I understand about MS not being your biggest sadness. I get it. My hubby is very supportive, I don't know how well I'd do w/o him. Well, I don't know which one of your videos to post on, so I'll just jump in on this one and start talkin'. I won the MS lottery in '98, the Neuro gave me a choice and I did nothing till Nov '99 when I had a REALLY bad episode. So then I did Avonex, till 2003 & now I'm on Copaxone. I'm seriously considering the Ty, w/ see my DR the 20th. The PML doesn't scare me as much as 10 years from now. I've started having bad problems '03. I use my scooter for long distance. I am a fighter, so gloves off.

Great commentary! The only thing I could add is PML IS NOW TREATABLE! A plasma exchange can be initiated to treat the patient, which is why the two recent cases are overblown. PML is no longer a mandatory death sentence, all drugs can have reactions, just not in everyone, I feel bad for those that had a reaction, because they are forced off the best form of treatment, but the fear of PML since it is now DIAGNOSABLE AND TREATABLE is IMO overblown. Glad to see that you're doing well!

good for you u don't have to travel to get your Tysabri. I just had my 17th infusion a week ago. I am scared and for me I think I will probably pause for 3 to six month and wait and see. I think I am more stable on Tysabri but may be copaxone will do the trick again. I was on Copxone for 5 years and somewhat did work little until my MS got aggressive.Honestly I m confused. I don't know what I will do but I have 3weeks to decide! Good luck to you! Any advice?

I went to an estate workshop put on by the Lone Star MS chapter and there were very few people in chairs. Because of Tysabri I was able to WALK in and around for a long time. Eventually got my chair out because the bath room was so far away and I am still not used to walking so far. It is more the neuropathy that get me than the MS. Love your updates. Marilyn

However, my wife told me that a woman said to her one time that she "knew my husband had MS because he was happy all the time." Hi vern! I was curious if you have ever heard of the word "ebullience", it means overly excitable,and sometimes inappropiate in behavior. I have a good friend who is a pharmacist, and whose husband is a rehab Doctor. My friend told me that because of my behavior, that her husband noticed that I was showing 'ebullience' due to MS. I've noticed an other woman behaving this way at the place I get my Tysabri Treatments. Thanks, Elise

Hi Angie; My 3rd Tysabri infusion was pivotal, but that may not be the case for everyone. No, I haven't experienced spasticity since starting Tysabri. Hi Vern, Great video updates! Question for you, I just watched your brain fuzz video. I am getting my third Tysabri infusion next Friday. It is going well especially for the first three weeks. Hi KC! Good to hear from you again. At the Des Moines Ruan MS center there are about 40 other people getting monthly Tysabri infusions. Some are doing very well and all report that Tysabri makes them feel better. I feel better because I can walk, but the buzzing and burning and the fatigue is still pretty bad.

Hi Lauren! Good to hear from you again! The damage may be permanent, but the doctors also told me that Tysabri will not fix disability, but I ditched my wheelchair and crutches. There is hope!

Oh Vern, How wonderfully you are doing! I go for my 23rd Tysabri infusion next Wednesday... I can hardly wait! Even though I'm still in a wheelchair, Tysabri has kept my MS stable (remember, I have had MS for 32+ years, so my damage is probably permanent). Yes I remember you nurse Cindy! Ah...that dreaded "O" word. When I was finally forced to give up my career, it felt like a ton of weight was lifted off of my shoulders and I could feel my MS stabilizing. Then in 06 I was forced to take care of myself because I was certainly broken. It was hard to accept, but I felt I had to and I think I asm doing better because of being forced to take care of me.

Hello Vern. I don't know if you remember me or not. I have to agree with you on stress being related to the onset and worsening of symptoms. Since I talke to you last my doctor restricted me to 36 hours a week. As usual, I was trying to do anything and EVERYTHING instead of taking care of myself. He called to my attention the fact that I was getting "older" and that I would have to slow down a bit if I wanted to keep working. I hate that "o" work but I have learned to accept it.

Inspiring for sure! Vern, u give me courage to ask Dr and maybe start Ty. Your courage in 2006 was awesome too, I don't know I'd do as well as you have, if I lost my hubby. I won the MS lottery in '98, after 10 yrs with him. He is sticking it out w/ me, he's an inspiration too. I use a stick to walk w/, a scooter for long distance. I travel to CA every yr., so far I'm blessed. I've always felt lucky this didn't hit me when I was 22, instead of 42. I wouldn't be here now. C ya, stay well.

This is SO refreshing to watch! I'm lucky, doing pretty well on Avonex (Tysarbiri is licensed for Secondary Progressive only in the UK and I've relapsing/remitting and getting about 'ok' with one stick so I don't and can't complain! I even work full-time with teenagers in a local college here and have been SO fortunate after a few very dark years. So nice to see how this gent has benefitted; wonder if it'll be my turn one day?! I was diagnosed with MS eight years before Tysabri. Canadian crutches are forearm crutches, like Kerry in the TV show ER uses. I walked freely, although a bit slow, the day aftermy thirs infusion. I can now walk up to a mile before I get real tired.

sanity went by the wayside a long time ago ? lol its itchy aaaargh !!! it wakes me at night not painful but the blisters just itch like mad so I'm not sure its even shingles or some form of herpes zoster or what it is on my elbow/forearm. I can barely stand it I have calamine lotion on right now and popped some vitamin C so I can hopefully get back to sleep its just horrible . Yes, the pain did lessen but I still have the random sharp, stabby pains on the left side of my face (mainly in the forehead). The left side of my face is still numb, too. I hope that goes away soon. I am not taking any more pain meds, with the exception of IB every once in a while.

Thanks for the video. I'm 38 and I just got it on my chest (left side only) My pain is not that bad, exept when trying to sleep. I think I will have to get some pain med for that. I'm on about day 4 (of the rash) now. I had the other systems (chest pain mainly two-three days prior) I thank you for your video, very imformative. My question is I have been reading that you can have pain long after it is gone. How did you do? Did the pain stick around after shingles?

Really? Well mine has recovered almost 100% and I never once felt a strong pain to it. It was only itchy for me. I did have a cream which may have soothed it a little bit, but it deffinatly took the itch away.

im 15 and i have it on my neck, no where else...At first I was fine it was a tad itchy...Now it burns and stings like a mother. I wish it went away.. If you have only had it for 2-3 days you have not yet felt the pain. you will I recomend not wearing a shirt I dont wear t-shirts cuase the collar on my neck...I am screwed at school. you are not alone

I've never had Shingles so can't even imagine the pain associated. Not really even sure why I did a search for Shingles on YouTube, but your video did startle me and I feel for people who have had it much more now that I've seen the effects. i feel for you i never had it that bad but what heleped me was taking 2 drops of oil of oregano under my tongue and chase down with juice i prefer orange juice cause the oil is real strong and i rub it over my shingles and in no time i felt relief of the itching and burning. once they dissapered i still would take it orally. i noticed when i went months without taking it orally i would break out. i dont take no more chances anymore, oil of oregano is with me and in my system for now on!!

I've had it on right middle face & roof of mouth for about 3 weeks, probably from the right maxilliary opthalmic trigeminal nerve which is connected to the inside upper mouth & teeth, cheek, side of nose, nasal passage, eye, forehead, & scalp. Face has mostly healed up but I'm left with numb & painful/sensitive areas. Mouth roof is improving but a long way to go. Apparently deadened nerves will usually recover within 2 months but pain might continue. Not fun! I hope everyone recovers OK.

hi, im a male 36 and just getting over facial shingles, 3 months to date, try using gabapentin(neurontin) its mainly for epilepsy however does a great side effect in pain blockage together with tramodol and aclivor for the virus. I had to try various other pain relief for 1st six weeks, waste of time and lots of pain. this was the only treatment that helped me. try to get on it straight away!! hope this info helps someone else. ps dont pick the scabs i now have the scars to prove it

thanks for kind words about my shingles. You answered back on 3 weeks shingles YOUR skin looks healed. Am at day 10 with shingles trying to be up and around keep blood flow. nerves in hands ok so far am a professional musician. Chronic low back pain for years dragged me down also flu twice since Feb. Valtrex 1 gram 3x per day must have helped w/shingles. Wear 2 shirts to leave house protect those who haven't had chicken pox. Glad infusions going well. glad you got rid of shingles take care

Good for you for getting your sight back and improving balance! I have not had bad headaches (just a few, but nothing persistent) but a friend of mine who just started Tysabri has had some headaches. I have not had any kidney pain. I am having a harder time walking this past few days but I hope it is just temporary. Thanks for your prayers and I will also pray for you too! Hi there I have just joined tonight. I have just had my second Tysabri infusion. I have my sight back and I am improving with balance. I did have extremley bad headaches that lasted for 9 days, and I do feel a little stiff in my neck, but I am going to give things longer as the benefits far out weigh the negatives. Can I ask if you have had any kidney pain? Anyway, it was nice talking I will pray that your continued health gets better and better, and look forward to your next video.

Hey Vern, you look good! I'm going to start on Tysabri next week thanks to watching your inspiring videos. I'm not in a wheelchair nor do I use crutches but I can only walk short distances before I have to sit down or take a break (or fall). How far can you walk at a stretch? In one of your other videos, I saw you said that you walked a mile in the morning and a mile in the evening. How is this going? Has it been getting better with the ongoing Tysabri infusions?

Vern, You look happy, healthy, like a million dollars! Congratulations and good luck. From reading many of the MS sites and blogs it appears there are others who believe they would benefit from a 3 week cycle on Tysabri. I believe I have read that in Europe some do receive Ty closer to a 3 week schedule, but in Europe they do not have the Touch program. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Hi WildCherry; Thanks for the comment. I asked my nurse again today about a stopping point because she spoke with a Tysabri representative last week. They don't know when, but they think there will be an endpoint for taking Tysabri. About the picture (Ha), it's a sign Melinda made for me when I was gone for a week one time. She painted the design (crafty, eh?) and it says: Welcome Home! We missed you bad! Love; Melinda, Sammy, Allie and Steve (our dogs). :)

I can now ride a motorcycle again. I lost the ability to balance shortly after I was diagnosed with MS and had to give up cycle riding. I'm back albeit a little shaky, but I can drive it and keep it upright.
