You missed my point. A well designed hydrualic system has "fuses" built into the system. These " fuses" act as shut off valves to keep a total hydraulic fluid loss from happening in case of exstensive damage to a section of the system. The DC-10 didn't have the fuses and it looks like Airbus dosen't either.

so, let's look at history. besides trained astronauts, nasa sent up several scientists and one school teacher in their entire history. by contrast ESA and the Russians sent up several space tourists and their tickets were millions of dollars each! now VG will do it NEXT YEAR for 200k and they are using 100% reuseable hardware. they are just the FIRST. other businesses will follow, new technologies will be discovered, costs will drop. all will benefit eventually. i am going to start saving now!

Oh, please! We've had space flight for over 50 years, and the closest we have reached so far is for rich snobs to have something new to lord us over with. How does it make you feel to think that Paris Hilton may soon be in the same league as Neil Armstrong? i agree that responsible technology is important. some research of them will show that low eco impact is important to their business plan. many of today's technolgies we enjoy are products of the space program. competition for NASA is a good thing. the more competition in space will eventually enable the regular joe's like me and presumably you to take a "joy ride" or more importantly - to be able to travel intercontenental in a fraction of the time it takes now and for a fraction of the cost.

Well it would work but the problem is still the drag. the plane would have to pitch down steeply to maintain airspeed to keep from stalling resulting in a rapid descent. Basicly what im saying is yes it would recharge it but the descent would last only a few seconds to a few minutes depending on altitude, In otherwords it wont generate enough to replinish the battery.

I made a plane that runs on nectar points, celebrity gossip and the sound of half assed, moronic audience laughter from weak BBC2 comedy series like 'Two Pints...'. Early test flights have far exceeded all expectations. I had some stability problems and a beastly stall characteristics initially but these have all been ironed out now that I've added a patented fly-by-wireless system permanently tuned into Radio 4 - very smooth handling, especially when Charlotte Green is on.

this guy is cool. i like the fact that it glides especially if it catches fire and the motor dies. my idea was to make a half balloon wing shaped flyer to counter the weight of the batteries. if the solar energy was used to make hydrogen then that could fill the balloon and be used as fuel to burn or fuel cell technology.

Right. Ideally, I could imagine that eventually the research leads to the multi-layer multi-wavelength design in the paint on solution; maybe some time of chemical bonding to align the materials. That plane looks fantastic. Only problem I have with it is that its single engine... but I suppose thats what the parachute is for. Still, I'd much rather land on a runway with one engine than on who knows what with a chute, probably causing significant damage to my plane in the process.

I don't think the interviewer sounds pessimistic or disinterested, I think he sounds very skeptical. It is probably hard to go along with the hype of the promotor, when it is pretty obvious this is not going anywhere. Many similar craft have been "mocked up" like this since the 60's, and never fly. The car here never flew. It probably won't. And do you honestly think two grandparents bought one to go upstate and visit their grandkids? B.S. I would have had trouble sounding happy, as he did.

I agree with some of the other comments about the interviewer. He's not only unenthusiastic and pessimistic, I get the sense that he's a bit envious of the designer's talent and ingenuity. This is the first concept I've seen that I'd say is the closest to being production ready. And while nearly $200,000 is a lot of money for a vehicle, it's relatively cheap in the aircraft world. And as production increases, prices should decrease. I hope this innovative design will be a success. Best of Luck!
