The best way to start..is to simple start. Chant a few minutes each morning and evening, and see how you like it. A great book, one that led me to this practice, is The Buddha in Your Rearview Mirror by Woody Hochswender. It's a great book that explains the practice in a simple and very interesting way. After reading it, I sought out other Buddhists.

I've been chanting now for 17 days, I received my Gohonzon Sunday and will have it enshrined this Friday. It's a great practice, I'm so glad I found it. I chant every morning and evening. Unlike some religions, Buddhism encourages the unity of all the worlds people! Regardless of ones beliefs or disbeliefs.

I think MI55SG is trying to shed some light rather than hating. Aramaic is the language jesus spoke in and is the language the bible was written in. It is a very special language that should be respected, and i agree with MI55SG. Each to their own i guess.

Actually you are wrong, there is no such people or tribe as "armeans". And Assyrians do speak a form of Aramaic. I know because i am assyrian and i can read &write in aramaic. The variation is forms of aramaic dependant on region of mesopotamia you originate. And the language is still used and very alive through out the world.

Hi, yes the spelling is correct only the b in aboon is pronounced, awoon. The b has a dot under it that changes the sound. english grammer does not have these accents in its alphabet so it sounds inconsistant. ie. Aramaic to english. Thank you. But it is a very beautiful prayer. 22 letters in aramaic but with the accents applicable to each character it covers a "much" greater range. English has 26. But with little variation and range. ;)

This is a pretty old language, one that came thousands of years before the language you speak today. i don't find aramaic funny. And by the way, the meaning of the prayer and translation into englsh, it totally looses its meaning. Maybe thats whats funny.
