Astral Weeks is NOT overrated. That's one of the greatest albums ever easily. I'll agree with Jonis blues, sgt. peppers (they have at least 4 albums that are better), I can stand Pink Floyd, u2, Queen is decent, led zep is dcent, Clapton gets entirely too much credit considering he's an average-decent SONGWRITER at best and DS never did anything for me.

Of course it goes without saying lennon/macca,the kinks bros, the glimmer twins etc also came up with the goods (you can keep van the man tho, astral weeks is one of THE most overrated album ever ,well along with jonis blue,loves forever changes,fabs sgt pep and of course anything by pinkfloyd, u2,queen,led zep 4,clapton,dire str....well you get the picture)

I think the genius of the man and really his music is that he can make simplicity so magnificent. Neil Young to me is the greatest songwriter of all time and if anything...if you have any sense you would have to put him top 10 at the least. My point though is that this song really isn't difficult to play, it's the fact he can make such a simple song musically with his harmonica, lyrics, and voice so magical. THAT is the genius of Neil Young.

I dunno if I would agree with that list exactly. I like Tom Waits and Leonard Cohen, but anything CREAM OF THE CROP would be: Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Lennon/Mccartney, and Jagger/Richardson...but that's just my opinion.

I love this version of the song because they are just so into it and having a good time, but the best version is the version from Live at Massey Hall solo acoustic...the lyrics with just him his acoustic guitar and his voice is just much more emotional. I like this version better then the Deja Vu version though.

You gotta respect a man, who time and again, shows respect for the working class heros of our world... although, I truly am sorry you missed the seeing him because of it. I agree with you on Dylan's personal persona these days. His swagger on stage is truly appealing, although I don't think he really "unplugs" anymore. A game is right. When doing acoustic numbers...always heartfelt. His electric...mindblowing! But the old man canceled his show on me. He didn't want to cross the picket line. Being a union man myself, I understand and hope to catch him on his promised return. Seen Dylan as well? Don't you find him a bit more personal now days? His voice too (although a bit tattered), has character in it that is really appealing. His "unplugged" show is fantastic (to me).

That certainly is the sentiments of the man who wrote the song. He also wrote a song which starts "God is a concept, by which we measure our pain..." However, based on Neil's past few albums, he definitely has a differing opinion then that of John Lennon when it comes to God or "The Great Spirit."

It's not so much that the technique is difficult it's that most people don't understand. Basically Bert Jansch who really pioneered the 'strum and pick at the same time" guitar technique so you get that sound like it's two guitars is basically as Neil himself said "He is the hendrix of the acoustic guitar". He basically got that technique in the mid the late 60's from Bert and has used it a lot as in this song here.
